Services we don’t cover

Dental

General Practitioners are not trained nor indemnified to treat any dental problems including infection. If you are unable to see your own dentist for treatment you should contact the NHS emergency dental support on 111.

Requests for Sedatives

GPs will not issue prescriptions for sedating medications (such as diazepam) for any procedure or scan being undertaken including MRI scans and dental procedures. If you feel you need sedation, please speak to the team undertaking the procedure or scan, as they are responsible for providing this if needed. This is in keeping with Royal College of Radiologists guidance below.

If a dentist wishes to prescribe sedating medications for anxious patients, that dentist should be responsible for issuing the prescription. The dental practitioner’s formulary, which is the list of drugs a dentist can prescribe is found on the BNF dental practitioners formulary, includes Diazepam Tablets and Oral Solution.

Fear of flying

We do not prescribe medications for fear of flying, this is in keeping with the aviation guidelines. For information on how to manage fear of flying symptoms, please see the following link How to manage a fear of flying and flying anxiety

Medical advice whilst abroad

We are unable to provide medical services to patients that have travelled outside of the UK. If you require medical assistance while abroad, we urge you to seek medical advice locally.

Delaying menstrual periods

Central Surgery will no longer prescribe Norethisterone or other medications solely to delay periods for convenience, including for travel, holidays, or other non-medical reasons.

Our practice is committed to following guidelines that prioritise the safest and most effective use of medications based on medical necessity and evidence-based best practices.

Norethisterone will still be prescribed when there is a medically valid indication, as determined by your healthcare provider.

If you are considering managing your menstrual cycle for travel or lifestyle reasons, please discuss options with your local pharmacist.

Housing Applications

We do not provide letters for housing applications. Whilst we appreciate that housing problems can be stressful, this is a matter for the council housing office. If the council requires additional medical information, they will send a specific form to the GP surgery. You will need to provide your written consent for this.
