Prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

Acute medication requests

If you would like to request a medication that does not appear on your repeat medication list, please complete our online form.

Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • at your GP practice
  • at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

You can also use our online form to ask us questions about your prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

Go to Medicines A to Z on the NHS website.

Medication reviews

If you have any repeat medication you will need an annual review. This maybe by phone or in person with our clinical pharmacist. The date of your annual review will coincide with your birth month, please contact reception to book.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the sink or toilet.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses, for more information Click Here

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Find a pharmacy on the NHS website.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.

Only order what you need

The NHS in Humber and North Yorkshire spends £332 million a year on medicines – and £26 million is wasted when unwanted repeat prescriptions are returned. These medicines can’t be reused or recycled; they must be destroyed.

How you can help:

• Check before you order – only request what you’re running out of.

• Open your prescription bag – return anything you don’t need before you leave the pharmacy.

• Talk to your pharmacy team – let them know if you’ve stopped taking a medicine.

• Return safely – always bring unused or expired medicines back to the pharmacy, not the bin or sink.

By making these simple changes, you’ll help your NHS, protect the environment, and stay safe.

Check before you order.
